Before the age of seventeen, the young men and women of Jerar are given a choice —pursue a trade or enroll in a trial year in one of the realm’s three war schools to study as a soldier, knight, or mage…

For fifteen-year-old Ryiah, the choice has always been easy. Become a mage and train in Combat, the most prestigious faction of magic.

Yet when she arrives, Ry finds herself competing against friend and foe for one of the exalted apprenticeships. Everyone is rooting for her to fail—first and foremost among them is Prince Darren, the school prodigy who has done nothing but make life miserable since she arrived.

Will she survive, or will her dream go down in flames?

Review: Firstly, I’d like to thank Rachel for simply being an amazing author that has changed my reading world!
Now to the review.

I’ve  known about these books for a few months now and I’ve been dying to read these! I have now and well, all i can say is, this series is officially my new obsession now.

Ryiah is one of the most amazing characters I’ve read. I love the journey she takes you on and how you grow with the character in this book.
I also love how she’s captured each of the character’s personalities so well.
I find that in a lot of books you can’t really tell who’s who because of the writing style.
But Rachel has done it it so well.
I could actually tell they were different people!

I love the whole vibe of this book. If you like Throne of Glass or Harry Potter I think you’ll  definitely love this book too!
Genre wise, I love how this book has little elements of everything. I’m definitely  going to get these book in physical form because I love love love the covers!

I’ve  been in a reading slump since the beginning of December and this is the remedy to fix ALL book slumps.
It’s just such a captivating story, I got lost in this book and I couldn’t put it down! I seriously  cannot wait to see what happens next in book #2 The Aprentice!

So go and read this book. Because this is seriously awesome and everyone needs to know about these books!
